Ha! I don't see how you dont' consider yourself a good writter, you just as intresting as most of the fictional books i read, and your ALMOST convicing as calladus, or emonmusings. I respect you sir, and thank you for giving us an insight to what i personally have intrest in, what my family is going threw right now, and that the news sucks at doing, giving us news.

John –

Thanks for this post. You proved yourself wrong, though. You ARE a gifted and compelling writer. You may be (luckily) far enough removed from much of the real danger and loss happening, but you are apparently also close enough to provide the vivid and personal side of things as you did.

Steve was right in that east coasters (like me too) have no idea what those in California are going through. We can watch the news… but, to hear it from someone we know… (or even kind of know, say, through their blog … even if it's someone who is STILL not RIGHT in the thick of it themselves, but is certainly much closer than we are) -well, it still hit's home more.

I always struggle at the end of these kind of notes… wanting to say something like, "I'll keep you and those who are in the thick of it in my prayers"… but… ummm… I don't really pray anymore… I do hope, though… and wish… and I will keep you and them in my thoughts, and sure do hope things start looking up soon.

I also went online, looking for ways to help, or what was needed. The quick and short answer was to help the Red Cross, so they can keep helping. I figure I can at least make a donation with them. Here's details on how to do that if anyone's interested:

Gotta love the pathological joggers. Perhaps she was running away from Blackwater though. Randi Rhodes reports that the fire is related to San Diego’s antagonizing of Blackwater. Conclusive proof that President Bush is anti jogger.

Brilliance: Yeah, what's up with … Psycho Joggers? And did we San Diegans antagonize Blackwater? (And who the hell thought to call ANY company "Blackwater"? It's like calling your company "Pure Evil" or "Death Camp." It's so … Obviously Craven.) I didn't know we'd been particularly antagonistic toward Blackwater. Is there some problem with a pack of gun-crazed, steroid-riddled, psychotic, lawless mercenaries … oh, wait. I'm starting to see Rhodes' point. Never mind.

I appreciate your latest blog. It shows you can indeed write, well and with awe-inspiring wit. You show compassion and empathy for all those involved in the wildfires. You once again drew attention to something I hadn’t seen in other news reports, the plight of those laborers living in trees and canyons:
“No one I know is among the agricultural and day laborers you won’t hear about on the news who died in the fires because they lived down amongst the trees and bramble of the canyons most quickly and thoroughly consumed.”
In addition, the normal news perused contained no account of Rancho Bernardo residents kept from their homes yet longer due to security concerns surrounding President George W. Bush’s visit. Thank you.
