5 Things to Tell Yourself at the End of a Three-Day Weekend

by John Shore on July 6, 2008 in Humor · 12 comments

1. You don’t have to be all that  great on Monday morning.

2.  By about 11 o’clock Tuesday morning, you will have forever forgotten this weekend anyway.

3. Routine, Structure, and Taking Care of Business are a solid blessing in anyone’s life.

4. Friday’s about 90% a weekend day anyway — meaning you’re really only four days away from a whole new  weekend!

5. God loves you, and has put you in exactly the place, time, and condition that he knows will, in the end, prove perfectly ideal for you.

(I’ve lately developed a habit of posting something new here before people have had a chance [if they care] to check out Le’ Latest ala’ Moi. That’s usually Cool Enough, for sure. But in this one instance, if you happen to have missed my Most Excellent photo of an Undeniably Evil Tree, I feel safe in saying you’ll have a good time if you visit here.)

Thank you for #5, John. It is very reassuring to hear something we all (should) know, but forget at times.

Dude, that is so funny. Or sad. Or … something.

Friday’s about 90% a weekend day anyway…

Hahaha! And true.

Here in our nation's capital that is a conservative figure. To half of the federal worker it is 100% weekend day since they take it off. To the rest of us it is like 99% weekend since the people we need to work with are all off.

Candace: Are you sure I don't look very … drunkerish?

Pontiac: Yes, being vaporized by a speeding train and writing a blog post ARE very close to the same thing.

NOT!

Though I, as does tend to happen with so many train mishaps, do tend to spend too much time getting off track.

GET IT?? GET IT?? DID'YA GET IT???

Sam: Thank you. And quit sending me naked pictures of yourself. I appreciated the first four or five, but this is just getting ridiculous.

I vote that you keep posting frequently. Just because I like it. And I like the new photos too. You look very … writerish.

John,

It can be a little too much when someone has decided to end it all by standing in front of the train, but then so is writing a good blog. No, not like standing in front of a train, but you know, difficult. You do it well, and there are some other blogs I've read that seem very well written too.

Or maybe it is like standing in front of a train. I know it is for me some days. :)

John,

You look fit John – good work. The workouts must be working.

Keep up the good workouts.

Wow, Dan. That does sound like the greatest job in the history of derailment. Kind of scary though, no? Kind of? Sometimes? Sounds like it could be a tad … harrowing.

John, I'm an investigator for the Chicago commuter railroad. I have been an investigator for close to forty years. Like Moses in the dessert perhaps. When trains have accidents, I go to the scene to see what happened. I also investigate passenger accidents and employee injuries.

It's interesting and I seldom know what my day will contain when I arrive in the morning.

Dan: Thanks for sharing how you had such a great weekend. It sounds absolutely lovely. And thanks for the kind words about my blog. That's so sweet of you. I've actually been wondering if I'm just ANNOYING people by posting as often as I have been lately. But you've helped me see that … well, that you're profoundly disturbed.

And yet, somehow, that works for me. Awesome.

No, but seriously.

Seek help.

No, but for real real: What do you do for a living, if I might ask?

John,

We've had a great weekend, Deb and I. The weather was perfect, think something like San Diego in Chicago. We visited with friends and attended cook outs with family to celebrate the holiday. Today at church the message was terrific. I have a job I enjoy and Mondays aren't too terrible. I look forward to the weekend but not at the expense of the neat things that fill each week. Like your blog for instance. I much more enjoy it six or seven times a week than two or three. Good photo of you too!
