In an alley the other day I found the above. Total Work of Art, or Obvious Garbage?? You be the judge!

    Yeah, who DO you hang out in alleys?

    I would never of recognize the scruffy, Clark Kent version of you had we met on the street. Or alley for that matter.

    I like alleys. Not quite streets. Not quite backyards. Not quite commerical propery. Not quite … unincorporated nowheres. Alleys are just the sort of … limbo-environs I like. People PUT stuff in alleys, and I’m basically a … looker at stuff.

    Really, it’s just sad.

    There is actually a correct answer to your question. It is art if you say it is art.

    I recently heard on public radio (an awesome information resource…you should all subscribe and listen) about someone that literally took dumpster garbage and compressed it into cubes and sold it as art. It was not really artistic expression, but he was curious as to people’s reaction. He started selling them at $5 and did, indeed, sell some. He then raised the price to $10 and …. wait for it…sold MORE of them. He kept raising the price and the sales kept increasing. My recollection is that he stopped at $100/cube. Read into that what you like.

    So your alley discovery???…It is art if you say it is. How much do you want for it?

    Obvious garbage. Because I say so :-)

    Still, the whole “charge more to sell more” thing is true. They’ve done actual studies.

    I read into it that PT Barnum was right.

    I almost like it, but if you look close the black looks too much like pooh, …otherwise I would have said it was art. But now it’s nothing. NOTHING I say, okay it’s art.

    I have a hard time calling it art because it wasn’t deliberately created as art. I think that’s my definition of art. Someone’s deliberate expression. Is it aesthetically pleasing and would I hang it on my wall? Yes, and I might even still call it art despite it not being the definition of art.. Cool picture…
