Someone asked if I wrote my last post, You’re Not a Real Christian, in response to some of the snarkier comments I received to my Sane Evangelizing 101.
I didn’t. But the question did remind me of this website, which is all about what a heretic I am.
Don’t you just hate it when someone puts up a website declaring you a heretic?
sigh….
(But wait—there’s more! Here’s another guy who thinks I’m going to hell and am trying to take everyone with me.)
Sigh redux.

the heresy watchdog looks so SAD! What's that about? Is it so difficult to find photos of menacing-looking, protective-of-Biblical-Truth dog images? That dog has just about given up.
Wow.
Those are … ummm … great?
I like "Bishop Gene"'s picture of Sarah Palin, there, too … I think that that tells us all we need to know about that fellow. That it's kind of an upskirt picture is, well, creepy.
I agree, by the way, the dog's cute.
i just checked heresywatchdog.com and found that your book was the only one covered. For some reason, the blogger has failed to find any more heretics in this whole wide world. What a shame, John. He has appointed you the only living heretic….. must be lonely at the top/bottom/wherever.
I have never been called a heretic. I was called a “notorious troll, paid by a consordium of the radical Darwin agenda” that has “more than a passing familiarity with the sodomite agenda as well.” I was accused of “spewing lies and frothing hate.”
It was the first hate mail I had ever received, so I copied and pasted it as a blog post
I’m thinking if everyone likes everything I write, I must not be representing Jesus correctly.
Either that, or because it’s a Sharpei. Meaning it likely smells bad and has infected skin wrinkles. Not that I’m holding that against it. Really, not its fault, and it IS cute, fer sure.
(and that poor cute dog does not deserve to be associated with that website… maybe that’s why it’s looking so sad)
OMGOODNESS
the heresy website is the FUNNIEST THING EVER
it really shows that one can really believe ANYTHING if they want to
OMGOSH
i can’t believe anyone with sanity would actually write it
i’m not calling them extremely narrow-minded… okay, nevermind, I am.
I just find it as a complete joke
and hey, you know you’ve made it when people care so much about you that they make a website to talk about how NOT cool you are… and it only makes themselves look silly, sadly
THAT WEBSITE IS SO FUNNY lollllllll.
Btw, john
just my two cents
On a day when you're in a peaceful mood then I think you should read that website
b/c it's a good eye-opener into the truth. The truth that that guy actually has NOTHING on you. And most of all…, I think the truth that you didn't misrepresent God's message in ANY way. One of the feelings I used to feel was great burden at not presenting God's message at its best. God deserves it!!! He did SOOO much for me and all I need to do is… not turn people away from Him!!!! As in, not be human and screw up ahahaha…
But more seriously, in this case, that dude is dissing a good thing, and that's seriously messed up. And if he makes you feel bad in any way that is seriously even more messed up.
Your insight and honesty from your book is MUCH needed. I partially credit it to you, but for the most part I credit it to God who fashioned you to be the way you are. You experienced so much through your time as a 'Normie' that when you converted, God used your past for you to bring out His message for the 21ST CENTURY.
There is much glory revealed, all pointed to God, through you.
John, I'm sorry I didn't communicate better. I don't think you are a heretic.
The authors basic premise was that you stated the Great Commission was incompatible with the Great Commandment. I am assuming your book didn't say that and that this person just didn't listen. Is that true?
The verses–no. The way the guy is using prooftexting to convey what he thinks–yes.
If you love me, you will obey what I command. (John 14:15)
Whoever has my commands and obeys them, he is the one who loves me. He who loves me will be loved by my Father, and I too will love him and show myself to him. (John 14:21)
Jesus replied, "If anyone loves me, he will obey my teaching. My Father will love him, and we will come to him and make our home with him. (John 14:23)
He who does not love me will not obey my teaching. These words you hear are not my own; they belong to the Father who sent me. (John 14:24)
If you obey my commands, you will remain in my love, just as I have obeyed my Father's commands and remain in his love. (John 15:10)
(the above is from this guys website)
Doesnt this sound like an abusive relationship?
HAHAHAHHA. thanks for posting that watchdog website, i needed a giggle :] to apparently quote your book, which i haven't read,
"If someone said to you, “I love you—but I want you to change the very essence of who you are,” would you feel all warm and fuzzy inside, or . . . not exactly. (p. 12)"
i've been told that, in almost exactly the same phrasing [by my then-boyfriend!] and i'm sure you don't need me to tell you that i very much get what you're saying.
Hey John…I honestly think it's the humor he's missing. I think you're able to reach people in a way that a lot of others cannot, and I second the 'so refreshing' comment.
Awesome. When do we begin the child sacrifices?
Dan, I just have to ditto that.
So true. And so refreshing.
Thanks, John!
John,
I read the book. You and this site have more real Christian debate and conversation every day than that site has in ten years, I'm thinking. The book rocks. Narrow minded Christians who have to find fault in everything are exactly what the book speaks about. I do hope that the one copy the author of the site bought will get passed around to his friends and someone will by accident understand the message.
Nah, he just freaks out about things you didn’t say, twists the things you did, and completely ignores all the clarifications you give. It’s really not very impressive.
No, Jonathan, I’m not a heretic. I haven’t read what the guy wrote on his site, but I promise I’m not a heretic. As to your question of how I construe sharing the gospel and what that means to me, I obviously can’t sum up here what I spent 40,000 words saying in “I’m OK.”
John, I haven’t read your book so is what they are saying true? I don’t know how you construe sharing the gospel and what that means to you.
Totally. I did/do.
I agree with Anita and Candace. Seems that you are on the right track. The only good thing about that site was the dog.
My thought too, Anita. Seems like when it comes to pharisees, you really don't WANT them saying good stuff about you, now, do you??
John, I'd recommend taking that site as proof positive that you are on the right track. IF you take it at all, that is. The other option is to erase it from consideration completely.
I would consider being called a heretic a compliment considering the great cloud of witnesses that were tagged heretics themselves in their time.
Ahhhhh….this is so extremely sweet/kind/touching/heroic/totally true. Bless your heart, Ric. Thanks.
Jonathan, I bought and read "I'm OK" and I don't know what that guy is talking about. He totally misses John's humor and, well, each and everyone of his points on every page he cites. I don't even know where to begin with a critique of that site.
Thank you, Skerrib!
(except for the doggie–he's exceptionally cute)
"I'm sure if you wait a couple of minutes…" HAHAHAHAHA
The doggie is kinda cute though. Is it ok if I like the cuteness of the 'watch' doggie?
I'm sure if you just wait a couple of minutes, someone'll tell you.
Wow…what does that make me?
